A Winter Getaway in Saint Jo, Texas: Hot Tubs, Fire Pits and Starry Nights

Crackling fire burning in an outdoor fire pit at night surrounded by dark trees

Summer gets a lot of attention, but some of our favourite weekends at All Is Well Resort happen when it’s cold outside. Winter in Saint Jo, Texas, is quiet, crisp and full of stars. It’s the perfect season for a proper hideaway.

Why winter works so well here

The nights are long. It gets dark early, so the stargazing starts before dinner rather than after it. On a clear winter night, the North Texas sky is sharp and bright, with Orion climbing over the trees.

The hot tub comes into its own. Every one of our nine stays has a hot tub, and there’s nothing quite like sinking into hot water while your breath clouds in the cold air above you.

It’s even more peaceful. Fewer people are on the road, the woods are still and the whole place feels hushed. If you’re looking to unplug and recharge, winter makes it easy.

How to spend a winter weekend

  • Walk the trails in daylight. With the leaves down, you can see more of the land’s shape, including the ridgelines that drop 30 to 40 feet to where our two spring-fed creeks meet.
  • Light the fire pit at sunset and watch the sky fade from orange to deep blue.
  • Book a private chef. A slow-cooked dinner or a candlelit meal for two on your own deck turns an ordinary weekend into an occasion.
  • Warm up properly. Our Zen Den mirror house also has a sauna, which is a real treat after an evening outdoors.

Perfect for the holidays

Winter is packed with reasons to get away: a pre-Christmas escape, a quiet New Year’s Eve with no crowds, or a Valentine’s weekend that’s actually romantic. Our stays are designed for two, with one king bed each, so it’s just you, your favourite person and the stars.

A note on the weather

North Texas winters are mostly mild, but we do get the odd cold snap. Pack warm layers, a hat for evenings on the deck and sturdy shoes for the trails. Keep an eye on the forecast before you travel, too. If you have any questions about conditions, call us. We’re always happy to chat.

Winter dates tend to go fast around the holidays, so it’s worth looking early.
