Just a short drive from All Is Well Resort, Lake Nocona is a 1,470-acre reservoir tucked into the rolling Montague County countryside. It’s a favourite with local anglers, who come for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and hybrid striped bass. It’s just as lovely if the most energetic thing you want to do is sit by the water with a coffee.
Three public parks give you easy access to the lake: Weldon Robb, Joe Benton and Boone. Each has a boat ramp, and there are fishing piers too. Bring a picnic, a blanket and a good book, or launch a boat and spend a morning on the water. Boat ramp fees may apply, so check with the City of Nocona before you go.
When to go: Early mornings are calm, quiet and perfect for fishing. Spring and autumn bring the most comfortable temperatures. On summer days, go early, then retreat to the shade of the woods back at the resort. Head back in time for golden hour on your deck and a sky full of stars.
