Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard

North Texas wine country is closer than you might think. Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard is a family-owned and operated winery just outside Saint Jo. It’s a relaxed, scenic spot for an afternoon of tasting, and yes, there really are ostriches on the property.

Settle in with a glass or a tasting of their award-winning wines, and order snack plates and food pairings to go with them. There’s pavilion and table seating, as well as lawn seating in the open air. On weekends, live music often adds to the easygoing atmosphere. Expect beautiful views, a relaxing setting and warm, personal service.

When to go: Blue Ostrich is open Thursday to Sunday. Hours are usually noon to 6 pm Thursday and Friday, 11:30 am to 6 pm on Saturday and noon to 5 pm on Sunday, but check their website before you go. Reservations are highly recommended for weekend pavilion and table seating, while lawn seating is first-come, first-served. Go in the afternoon, then pick up a bottle to enjoy on your deck as the sun goes down. Remember to choose a designated driver for the short trip home.
